Congrats Dern and O!
So it looks like my fellow webtoonist friends from Dear Pirate, Commissioned Comic and Hello with Cheese have some celebrating to do! They’ve been picked up by Wizards of the Coast to do a series of comics, which appears to be updating on Fridays. The first is on random encounters, the rest we will have to wait and see.
I’m proud to say I helped introduce these two fellows at Connecticon a few years ago, and everything they post together gives me a few ounces of pride. Unfortunately no royalty check.

SitW: 22 WTF! Posters
A System in the Wild, found by Systemic James, here’s a link to 22 cool posters. Well I’d say about 12 of them are cool, 4 thought-provoking, and the rest not so bad to look at (NOTE: not real numbers). LINK »
Find an example of System-style art in your daily life, online or otherwise? Send it over to systemcomic at gmail!

System in the Wild: Minimalist Superhero Designs
Remember System in the Wild posts? When you, the lovely fans, would send in examples of “System-style” artwork online and in the real world and send it to me, and then I’d post it on the site? Some of you certainly haven’t, as you still send them to me, of which I am grateful. I, of course, have been lax in posting any such examples for months now. But this example, when sent in, made me bring it back.
Systemic and Internet Bro Marty F’n Day, writer of the nerd culture blog Blast-O-Rama, has sent in this link. It’s a set of examples of minimal superhero suit designs, separated (theorhetically) by a key object that transforms them or something. It’s hard to say. Some make more sense than others in this case (the Green Lantern has a lantern in the middle, Spider-Man has a spider, but Reed Richards has a big “4”, Iron Man has a big iron, etc.) but all are cool looking. CHECK EM OUT HERE »
Have you missed the posts? Do you want me to go back to posting SitW posts? Let me know in the comments. If you have a good one, send it to systemcomic at gmail, but no guarantees on whether or not it gets posted just yet.

The Noun Project
First off, thanks to the 10 or so Systemcics that sent me info about The Noun Project. Thanks to you guys I contacted the creators and I’m trying to work with them, and have provided them with many of the files I use to create the comics you see here each week.
But what is it? The Noun Project seeks to collect, organize and add highly recognize symbols that form the world’s visual language. All of the symbols (of which there are hundreds) are free, simple, and easy to download and use as needed. It’s a great resource for visual designers and the less gifted alike, not to mention fun to peruse. They put together a Kickstarter for it, and here’s more in a video:
Design geek-out for a moment, all of their symbols are available for download in vector format, so you can go nuts creating anything you want with them. Hell, you can even create some System comics! Though if you do, send them my way.

Good F*%king Design Advice
First of all, while it may go without saying, the following is NSFW. But it’s also awesome, so take that as you will.
The site Good F%*king Design Advice has collected a huge series of great design advice for you to keep in mind. If your college experience was anything like mine, they probably all sound like a teacher or two from college. Some highlights:
- Hang your fucking quotation marks.
- Have a fucking reason.
- Drink more fucking coffee.
- Don’t fucking work on spec.
- A computer is just a fucking tool.
- Believe in your fucking self.
I couldn’t agree more with all of these. If it weren’t for all the cursing, I would make my students memorize every single one. Check it out, and post your favs in the comments! LINK »

Zombie Poster of Awesome
Thanks to Systemic and long-time friend of The System Marty Fn Day for sending me this amazing poster. Well he sent me a link to the poster. If he actually sent me the POSTER that would be way cooler. Hear that, Marty? Huh?
It’s a painstakingly detailed image of almost 1,000 different zombie references from movies, books and games all in one great poster. The site even lets you zoom in and pan around to see all the references! Definitely worth checking out. Seems like they may start making more of the same, be sure to stay tuned to FreakingAweso.me.

What animal should you crawl into in order to survive?
Okay so you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere. You need to stay alive through the night and there’s no shelter in sight. Clearly the best thing to do is cut open an animal and crawl into it, right? But what if there are no TaunTauns around?
Systemic Manderson sends word of the hilarious and amazing blog http://crawlinginsideanimalstosurvive.blogspot.com/ tells you just what animals are best suited for this and why. Even tackling the question of whether they smell better on the outside or inside.
Check it out. It’s funny. LINK »

A Rolodex Worth Pursuing
My homeboy in Charm City the miraculous Marty Day has found this great collection of business cards of and from famous movies and other pop culture companies. It’s nerdtastic to the max. I poked around and found the creator’s Tumblr (Fro Design Co), where he posts tons of great posters for sale (including all the business cards on a poster).

Yes, I Am Precious
It’s a computer. No, it’s a bike. No, it’s a computer. Now it’s both! They hooked a pretty sweet bike up to a ton of sensors and are pedaling it across country. The “across country” part has been done before, but this sucker is paying attention and posts to its website the speed, direction, temperature, location, and a whole lot more. You can even surf around the site to see what was going on at any day of the trip so far. The most impressive part so far? 19 days in and only 1 flat.
You can check out the site here »
Thanks to Systemic Kerry for sending this my way.
