I don’t think I need to say anything that this trailer doesn’t say for itself.  Enjoy!

Ah, yes.  Remember forever ago when I posted about the followup to the amazing documentary Helvetica?  Well, the one that started it all, Helvetica, is getting a DVD collectors edition pen that is written in (and supposedly only writes in) Helvetica.  Check it out, get in on the joke, and if you haven’t seen it watch the movie.  If you have Netflix you have no excuse, as it is available on demand at any time and Netflix’s on demand service now runs through Mac as well (it didn’t until recently). A guy makes great visual movie reviews, then posts them on Flickr.  Pretty cool stuff, and I actually agree with the ones I’ve seen.  Darjeeling Limited is a pretty one though my fav has to be No Country for Old Men.  What do you think of these reviews? (Oh, and this guy has a web site.)

Time for another QQQ!  First up, Art Fight High School.  This new comic by webcomic veterans Marty Day and Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz is an amazing followup to their previous comic, Dead of Summer which wrapped a few weeks back.  The new one is about a bunch of super heroes in a town with no villains, and they’re all in high school.  How does the Art Fighting play in?  You’ll just have to tune in and see.  Unlike their previous work, this is in gorgeous full color.  Better not drop E before checking this out, it’s a technicolor rollercoaster of awesomeness. Link.

Next up is The Surrogates.  It’s an amazing graphic novel by Robert Venditti, reccomended to me by a coworker a while back.  Now it is jumping from print to screen, and it looks like Bruce Willis is going to star in this Blade Runner-esque blockbuster.  I loved the book, and this article points to a sequel and a prequel.  Can’t wait.

In the same convo that led me to read The Surrogates, the new comic series Kick Ass was sent my way.  It’s about a kid who wonders why there really ARENT super heroes in the real world, and sets about becoming one with no special powers or training.  He mostly gets the crap kicked out of him so far, but I’m really interested to see where it goes.  Oh, and it turns out they’re making a movie!  Thanks to MTV’s Splash Page (upkept in part by new Systemic Rick Marshall) comes news of the Kick Ass movie.  That is in fact Kick Ass.

That’s all for this week, kiddos.  See you around the next time news on comics I care about piles up enough to write a good post.  If you’re really into this sort of stuff, check out Marty’s other online project, Blast-O-Rama.  It’s where I get most of my news of the nerd, that is when I don’t just ask Marty about it myself on Gchat.  If you have anything you think I’d care about, send it my way to systemcomic at gmail dot com.

Some designers are making movie posters in a series for the product placement featured in those movies. A must see if you are:

  • A movie buff
  • A design geek
  • A typography geek (yes, that’s different than a design geek)
  • Someone that likes cool things

Thanks again to Kottke.org for showing me the light.  Here’s the post I’m talking about.

The whole site has some nice things too.  Be sure to check out the T-shirts, which I am really craving.

Thanks to Systemics Geoff and Carni for sending this my way.  After the Zack and Miri poster, it seems like Hollywood is moving towards a more simplistic look in their signage.  Take this poster for a movie that I have no interest in seeing, The Ugly Truth.  They’re stealing my artwork, but at least I didn’t have to see some cheezy pic of Gerard Butler.  I’d be OK with a cheezy pic of Katherine Heigl.  Link.

Gizmodo posted the best copy I can find right now.  Check it.

If you’re really into Tron and want to get psyched all over again, go check out Tank Riot’s latest episode.  It’s a great podcast for geeking out on a topic, and their latest is all about Tron (others include Nikola Tesla, Devo, Henry Ford, Iran, Leon Theremin, etc).  The first 20 minutes turned into a political tirade, but they get back to their original topic eventually, and once they do it’s worth it.  This is now officially the Tron Recap / TR2N psych-up thread.  Post your reminiscence and excitement or derision for the new one!

Kevin Smith’s next movie stars Seth Rogen (what movie doesn’t these days?) and Elizabeth Banks.  It’s called Zack and Miri Make a Porno.  Looks funny.  They ran into some censorship issues with the movie poster, and the replacement is kinda better.  What do you think?  Article found here.

A blog that posts movie title and ending title sequences, discusses them, and has them well indexed.  If you are a motion graphics / design / movie freak, this is the site for you.
