Carolyn “Curls Studio” Belefski was one of the amazing artists who performed one of our short, 10-minute Super Art Fights at this past weekend’s Washington, DC Counter Culture Fest 5 shows we did throughout the day. Here’s a vid!

Yes, it’s finally happened. After wanting to bring the Super Art Fight experience to DC for over 2 years, it’s finally going to happen. More than that, it’s being put on by my own students! The American University Graphic Design Department has seen fit to put on a full show of Super Art Fight as a club-sponsored event this Tuesday, November 2nd at 8pm.

The good news? It’s free! Totally free and open to the public, young and old, student or otherwise. If you come to the event you’ll see most of the normal show including myself, Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi, Chris “The Impact” Impink, and Garth “Finders Keepers” Graham* battling it out in a round-robin style 3-match extravaganza. Since it is a student event, the plan is to also leave some time for Q&A with the artists, whom are all graphic designers and will be talking a bit about their trade and careers on the canvas and off.

If you’re planning on attending, here’s a link to the Facebook event that the AU club put up. If you’re going to come, RSVP! It helps out with planning for the show.

This event is put on by myself with lots of my students, so I couldn’t be prouder and more excited about it. I know they are too, though they probably will think differently once Jami starts drawing boobs. Not sure if that will help or hurt, but it can’t help with my chances of keeping this job.

If you have any questions, post them in the comments and I’ll get to them.

*Garth, we need to get you a better nickname.

The System 425: Life Skype

Sorry for the lack of any real post-substance on Tuesday (and the fact that the comic was up Tuesday and not Monday), but the weekend in NYC at New York Comic Con killed me pretty fiercely. I’m planning to write more about it in the future, but in the meantime thanks to all of you who came by the table! The fans who said hi, the new people who found the comic, and the other comic-friends who bothered to come by. The weekend was a huge success, and I’ll definitely be going back next year.

Super Art Fight 8: This Friday!

If you are anywhere in the viscinity of Baltimore or DC, you should make your way to Baltimore’s The Ottobar on Friday night for an event I help put on called SUPER ART FIGHT 8 with special musical guest, nerdcore rapper MC FRONTALOT. You can get all the info you need on why this is awesome and tickets here. The short version? It’s somewhere between Pictionary and Pro Wrestling, with all your favorite artists fighting to the death for your approval. If that doesn’t get you interested, I don’t know what will. See you there Friday!

The System 415: Life’s Paradoxes

If you’re going to be coming by Intervention Con this weekend (and if you’re in DC / MD / VA area you should) here’s a quick run down:

I’ll be in Artist Alley at booth 77, right between Super Art Fight‘s table (I’m not working the table but I’m a part of the show) and Caf-Fiends. Don’t know who Caf-fiends are? Here’s a pic of them that I took at our joint Otakon table last year:

They’re good people. For the full table chart check it out on InterventionCon’s site here.

If you want to catch the panels and programs I’m on, SATURDAY is your day of choice. Super Art Fight is 6pm at the con, with another R-rated “Rules? What rules!?” kind of late night show at 10pm. Both should be amazing, so be sure to come by. Full programming schedule is here.

That’s pretty much all the info you need. If you need more, here’s the post on the SAF site all about it.

If you didn’t know already, Super Art Fight is a live art competition hosted by myself and my internet hetero slack-mate, Marty Fn Day. It’s like Pictionary mixed with WWE wrestling. It’s awesome, and you should check out the site for more info.

Post in the comments if I’ll see you there!

Hey Systemics! How many of you are in the tri-state area? Come to Wild Pig Con this weekend! I’m going to be joining my Super Art Fight crew for an amazing show at 4pm on Saturday, but there will also be tables to buy and meet people such as myself and a ton of comic friends including:

and a bunch of others that, while worthy of your time, are not people I’ve met and can claim to know. But they’ll be there too. Here’s the guest list.

Details? Oh, okay.

WHEN: Saturday, May 15th from noon to 8 PM, and Sunday, May 16th from 10 AM to 5 PM

WHERE: The Springfield Holiday Inn on Route 22 West in Springfield, NJ.

HOW MUCH: Only $5 to get in. That’s really cheap!

Here’s their website for any more info. Let me know in the comments if you plan on attending! Mention the secret phrase when you come by my table and I’ll give you FREE STUFF. What’s the secret phrase you say?

Jimmy is out to get me.

What’s the free stuff? You’ll have to come by the table and find out. Also, a special guest! RossMom from the comments (yknow, my mother) will be coming by too. See her and me and my dad too! See you this weekend!

A little over a week ago I had the chance to travel as part of Super Art Fight to ROFLcon as a guest. A guest at M.I.T., mind you! It was a great time and we had a great show. Thanks SO MUCH to Tim, Rachel, George (who owes me a $*&@ pen!) and the rest of the awesome ROFLcon people who helped bring us out and make that happen. For those that are interested, lots of little things have bubbled to the surface since, so here’s a quick roundup.

There’s a great writeup of what SAF is like over at GeekingOutAbout. LINK ยป

While we weren’t interviewed by Attack of the Show, they did most of their filming in the room we were selling merch. If you squint, you can almost make out me standing at our table with Jamie Noguchi trying to shill wares and get people to go to our show. You can watch the whole video here, but here’s a screen shot of what I’m talking about:

If you want to watch our actual show at ROFLcon, it will eventually be up on Archive.org. In the meantime, some diligent SAF fans recorded and posted most of the show in both photos and video. Photos are all on Flickr under the superartfight tag, and here’s a video of the ENTIRE SHOW (via the awesome Kurteng):

The trip was definitely an amazing one for Super Art Fight and The System, though it can be a little tricky to wear both hats at an event like this.

Luckily we had the show to do which went very well for all those involved. We had the honor and privelage to host more than our normal share of guest stars this time out including SAF roster regulars Chris Impink, Jamie Noguchi, Yuko Ota and Jamie Baldwin as well as newcomers to the canvas Zach Wiener, Tak Toyoshima and guest commentator extraordinaire Kris Straub. I’ll be honest, I love having SAF as a chance to talk to and work with other artists whose work I respect and enjoy. Sometimes, it even leads to other shows and projects, but more on that another time…

If you want more than this, Marty (and sometimes me but mostly Marty) keep all this sort of info about our Super Art Fight things over at SuperArtFight.com, which is the real place to keep up with all our upcoming shows and the like. You should go there and sign up for updates.

Anyway, hope you like the roundup! These things take me forever to write so if you enjoy reading it (or don’t), be honest and let me know in the comments.
