The System 347: Timing

NOTE: This is an update to try to fix an RSS problem. Some day I’ll learn it, too.
Btw, last month I went to Katsucon with the Super Art Fight crew. Sold some shirts and things, as well as put on quite the show! Here’s some pics taken by Brian “Amu’s World” Slaski from that awesome event. LINK »

The System 323: Ask a Designer (Airline Food)

Today starts 2 weeks of strips that I’m posting in advance. I asked what questions people had on Twitter and this week are the responses.
Even though Marty Fn’ Day has chosen a rather smart-assed question, I’ve chosen to give it a real answer. If you want more of Marty being a smart-ass, check out his nerd news blog Blast-o-Rama or our work together with Super Art Fight. In fact, we have a show coming up in Baltimore on January 23rd!

The Latest Super Art Fight!!!
It totally deserves 3 exclamation points. Super Art Fight is an awesome event I do with some fellow comic artists where we combine live art, improv comedy, and wrestling-style drama into an event that needs to be seen to be believed. I’ve normally been really behind on talking about it here on my site, but here is lots of advance notice:
Our next full show is 1/23/2010 at The Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland.
If you are at all a fan of seeing something interesting, webcomics, art, or me you really need to make it to the show. We’re slowly posting about all the fights that will be that night, but garuanteed you’ll see some pretty awesome webcomic peeps. If this isn’t enough notice, you probably couldn’t make it no matter how much notice I give you. LINK.

Super Art Fight: Yesterday and Tomorrow!
Sometimes I think I’m last to the party. But sometimes that means I get to link to everyone else’s parties! Angry Zen Master, BaltiNerd, Bree “Sex Drugs and June Cleaver” Rubin and Super Art Fight have already posted, we Super Art Fighters had a show last night.
We had the opportunity—nay, PRIVELAGE to have a show with last night at the Metro Gallery with The Protomen, an ensemble rock opera about Mega Man. We did a live mural during the show via uStream that had Super Art Fighters and friends Slaski, Impink and Lar in attendance that was pretty great. It’s one of those great things that makes you look down at the life you’re living and make you realize you must be doing something right. Thanks to all.
Now, we’re gearing up for this weekend! Along with Nick and Marty, Angry Zen Master, Mike Bracco, Bree, Impink, Dern and Joe “Digital Pimp” Dunn we will be tabling and having multiple shows at GameX in Philly! All the details for Super Art Fight can be found here, but here’s the quick show schedule:
SATURDAY
9:30AM – 10:10AM :: Super Art Fight
11:10AM – 11:50AM :: Super Art Fight
SUNDAY
10:00AM – 10:40AM :: Super Art Fight
11:40AM – 12:20PM :: Super Art Fight
If you’re coming to the show, don’t expect any The System merch. It’s all online on HilariAwesome.com, but I’m not bringing it to the show. This weekend is about Super Art Fight only, which means boards, shirts and sketch cards will be for sale. Still, come on by and see some great shows, play some video games, and otherwise have fun!
Oh, and for more pics of last night’s show, check out the SuperArtFight TwitPics or Baltinerd’s Picasa collection.

The System 292: Stop Lights

Ah, stop lights. The great equalizer. Btw, if you like this one you might like the new “Bike Sniper” shirt that is currently preordering! If the sales (or lack thereof) keep up like this, I think I’ll redesign, so get ’em before Monday!
Also, check below for info on Super Art Fight’s recent show with The Protomen, and seeing me this weekend in Philly at GameX!

Super Art Fight Tonight!

Connecticon Recap 1 – Panel Goodness
I’m going to be posting 2 or 3 different recaps of Connecticon, because it would not all fit in one post unless that post was really really long. Nobody wants that, so here we go. This one is all about Saturday, between 5pm and 8:30pm.
First up was a little event known as Super Art Fight. SAF has been a little project of mine and some local webcomics friends, and Connecticon was the biggest show yet. Through some sheer cohones and conniving on our part, we managed to get some of the most amazing webcomic artists in the biz, which was also a great chance to get to know some amazing webcomic artists that I hadn’t otherwise gotten to know. You can see all details in this post on the SAF site, and let us know if you have pics or video of the event. Or just let us know if you were there or heard about it or whatever.
The second big event pretty much speaks for itself. Check out this video of the beginning of the XKCD / Explosm.net panel which followed immediately after Super Art Fight.
That is part 1 of 8. The rest is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. The rest is pretty informative and hilarious, which involves me in a blue jacket, drinking “water” on stage, and telling a few people to shut the hell up.
Honestly, it was a little planned. After I moderated their panel at Webcomics Weekend, the guys were nice enough to let me moderate this one as well. Y’know, I thought I wrote about that experience on the site, but I never did. I meant to, but got so distracted that I just linked to photos of it. It was a great time for me and them the first time around, so we all did it again.
If you found the site through XKCD or Explosm in some way, write a comment. For that matter, if you like the panel, post about it.

Connecticon Weekend!
I’m off to Connecticon this weekend as a guest. I’ll be hanging in Webcomic Alley with the rest of the webcomics crew. If you’re in the Hartford, CT area, drop on by the table! If you know you’re going to be there, leave me a comment on the post. It’s nice to put screen names with faces.
We’re having TWO big Super Art Fight shows at Connecticon on Saturday, with some new art fighters! Details are on the SAF site here.
I’m going to try to get up a comic for Friday while I’m gone but if it doesn’t show up, content will begin flowing again on Monday. Remember, you have until Sunday night to enter the Jimmy The Murderdog Fan Art Contest!
If you just can’t live without me, I’ll probably be posting from my Twitter account a good bit.

Super Art Fight This Thursday in Baltimore!
UPDATE! Want TWO FREE TICKETS to the show? See below!
I do not talk enough about Super Art Fight on my own website. Let’s start with the basics. Super Art Fight is a live event that is part graffiti art jam, part wrestling match, and part rock show. If this doesn’t already entice you, I don’t think you’re a big fan of my comic. Want more? Here’s a video from a previous show (I’m the one in the amazingly blue jacket).
Do I have your attention now? Good. I know you’re thinking, when and how can I go to one of these amazing looking shows? The answer is THURSDAY. That’s right, the night before Otakon, you can attend Super Art Fight 4 at The Ottobar, this Thursday night.
Buy tickets ($10 each)? Here.
More info? Here.
More videos? Here.
Can’t make it but still jazzed about the whole thing? The artists draw exclusively from suggestions that are given by the audience both in person and online. You can submit ideas for things to draw on the “big submission post” right here. We’ll be posting vids and pics afterwards, so you’ll see how it turns out.
Oh, and here’s one more video of Nick pimping out the show.
So you’ve made it this far, and you are wondering about the free tickets? It’s simple! Email me (systemcomic at gmail) with:
- Post TWO Art Fight suggestions as mentioned above, as well as mentioned here (but email them to me, like I just said).
- A link to your favorite The System comic
- Subject line: SUPER ART FIGHT
That’s it! Then you’re entered to win. Winners chosen Wednesday night. Email me / comment on this post with questions.
