System in the Wild: Street Art Edition
Systemic Pahnl sends in some of his own street art from his website. It’s cool stuff! The man also ran a comic for quite some time, and that means if you’re waiting for more posts on this site, maybe you should check out his. LINK TO ART. LINK TO COMIC.
Next up is from Systemic Josh, who sends this one all the way from Japan! He writes:
Its directions on how to use a western-style toilet and has been stuck on the wall of this abandoned house that I stay in on one of the islands since probably the 1950s. It is located above one of the scariest toilets I’ve ever used. Its a second floor drop toilet. Basically a western looking throne with a hole in the bottom over top of a 2 story pipe.
A bit of a translation
Title: “On the use of a seated porcelain toilet”Picture on left is “for when men having a small bowel movement / Please use this by lifting the lid and seat and facing the porcelain while it comes out” picture on Right is “for when you need to have a large bowel movement, or when women have a small bowel movement / Please use by lifting only the lid, face backwards and politely sit down on the seat.”
Next up is Systemic Philip. He writes:
Seen in a local restaurant in Dallas leading to the porch for your next tripping compendium.
Are those shoes at the end of the arms for some reason or is it some fingers-together lowered jazz hands pose trying to add some style to the trip?
Well, anyone want to help Philip out with an answer? LINK.

Cool Comic Find: Mr. Oblivious
Systemic Juanamedina (who herself is an amazing illustrator) sent me a link to the work of Mr. Oblivious (Mark Gonyea). Great little illustration comics. It’s really cool! LINK.

Yes, I can be bribed.
Have I told you about my friends Kevin and Blondie? Kev and Blondie are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and to this day are the largest factor of why I love going to Connecticon.
So what does this have to do with bribery? THEY SENT ME COOKIES. Oh, the cookies they sent me! Christmas cookies of every size, color, shape, and taste. Like an orgy of joy in my mouth, they were! I would have taken a picture, but I ate them already. It wasn’t easy, but I did it. So due to their general awesomeness, I am telling you to GO READ THEIR COMIC.
It’s called Caf-Fiends and while I’ve talked about it before, they deserve another talking about. The comic is about the town of HADES, which is the site of an indian burial ground, alien crash landing site, military testing area, and a bunch of other things that make it worse than Terra Haute, Indiana. That’s not to mention that it is occupied by the likes of a gigantic girl robot and Cthulu. LINK.

Comics I Think You’d Like
Today’s SDJC seems to be very “System-Like”. So since you read this, I’d read it too. LINK.
For all those graphic designers out there, 1pt Rule is a comic all about graphic design and the subjects around it (freelancing, typography, coffee, yknow, all the normal stuff). LINK.
Not like they need my help, but Johnny Wander by Yuko and Ananth is awesometastic, and makes me want to revisit some of my earlier projects. Sometimes little stories and sometimes slice of life cuteness, JW is pretty awesome. LINK.
I’m always looking for new stuff to read! While I can’t promise I’ll like it, if you find something cool send it my way! Systemcomic at gmail, or @rosscott on twitter.

Rosscott in the Wild: Obsidian Edition (or) Why I Love Being a Webcomic Artist
Obsidian drew me into his comic! I’m the one in the green shirt. Also included in the photo are Marty, Kev and Blondie, Dern and Kendra, Lar and Spike. I hear there may be others. Can you spot them? Post in the comments! LINK.
A Little Backstory of Why I Love Being a Webcomic Artist
This summer I attended Connecticon and got a chance to hang with Colombia’s own premiere webcomic artist Obsidian. I have been listening to him on Extra Life Radio and reading his comic for years, and since we were doing a Super Art Fight as part of the convention, the chance to meet him and include him in the show was like wish fulfillment.
The amazing part about it all is that he didn’t really know anybody (that wasn’t amazing for him, mind you). As such, I met him at the very beginning of the con and got to hang with him and his cohort Lord Ebo pretty much the whole time. I showed him around what the con was like and he quickly fell into the group of webcomic friends that I’ve been lucky enough to form over the last couple of years of convention touring. The great thing about a group like this is all you need to do to join is have a website and be a nice dude (or fem-dude) and you’re pretty much in like Flynn. Next thing you know you have another person to talk to online, another person linking to your site, and every once in a while someone does something cool like draws you into their stuff.
So thanks, O! You rock. I hope you come back to Connecticon or some other convention I get to do, and the Super Art Fight stage always has a place for you.

Rosscott in the Wild: Guest Comic @ Dueling Analogs
NOTE: This is just the first line, not the whole comic. Click the link to see the rest.
This past Friday I did a guest comic over at Dueling Analogs by the great Steve Napierski in honor of yet another year of his throwing his life away doing webcomics. He lists me as one of the first webtoonists he ever met, which I find interesting since I doubted he even knew who I was at the time. Anyway, having gotten to know Steve over the last few years, I can honestly say that as far as gaming comics go, he tries harder than most. LINK.

Graphic Design Meets Super Villainy
One of my daily webcomic reads is a comic called Evil Inc. by Brad “Wigwam” Guigar. It centers around a corporation of evil super villains who sell products and services to other super villains. The man has a way with puns that rivals my own, in a way that is the same time cheeky and groan inducing (Brad, I honestly mean that in the best way). While the artwork is always good, the story line joke-based and interesting, and the recently-added color work tight and refreshing, I’m mentioning it today because of the most recent storyline on the site.
Starting this week, one of the characters, a super hero named Captain Heroic, has returned to his overlooked career of freelance graphic design for extra money. Hilarity has since ensued. The story line starts here, and is still going strong.
It’s also worth pointing out that Brad is also Editor-in-Chief behind Webcomics.com, and his colorist Ed is behind the site Tragically Geek (and the comic Geek Tragedy).*
*Every time I write “Tragedy” it looks like I spelled it wrong.

The System Reviewed
The site Luprand’s Webcomic Musings recently reviewed The System (THE REVIEW CLICK HERE). While not the most favorable review in the world, they clearly are a fan enough to write a review and link a whole bunch of their favorite / least favorite comics. The summary?
Four rounded panels and a load of snark.
Can’t disagree with that. He also reviews some of my friends (Crooked Gremlins, Amu’s World, Paradigm Shift) and seems to have a thing against poop jokes. To each his own I suppose.
In the past when people have reviewed The System, you Systemics have jumped to my defense and gone short of going after the reviewer. I appreciate the love Systemics, but there’s no need. Feel free to discuss with him on his site or here the points he makes, but keep it classy. Systemics are a classy bunch.

What Kind of Artist Are You?
Carter and Paul over at Crooked Gremlins posted this chart, claiming they are both on opposite sides of the spectrum. I’m ashamed to say where I am on it. Where are you?
Btw the creator of this chart is a comic artist / illustrator / assumedly graphic designer and I spent too long looking through the archive. It’s now in not only the comics I read, but the 1st set right after lunch. High praise indeed. His site here.
PS If in some way Caldwell Tanner comes across this and is in any way inclined to send me a Falcon Lunch shirt, that would be great thanks.

Howdy, Slackerz!
My friends over at Slackerz were kind enough to post a link over to The System last night. Greetings to all you newcomers, and thanks for the link guys!
For those of you who haven’t read it, Slackerz is a great comic. The artwork is fun and much more “fluid” and “expressive” than what you guys are used to here at The System. I had the chance to meet these dudes at Connecticon, and they are pretty awesome. I, like them, saw the dude dressed as Freakazoid with the bulge, but it didn’t say hi to me.
