The System 273: Keeping Up Appearances
It’s Mad Men Season
It’s that time of year again. Time to assemble your 3-piece suits and brush up on your martinis, because Mad Men is starting up for the season on AMC. Here’s three links to help get you in the mood.
Vanity Fair has an extensive writeup on the show. If nothing else, the photos are gorge. Link.
There’s been talk of a Mad Men parody on Sesame Street. Not sure what the audience is there, but as a huge fan of Mad Men I’m on board. Anyway, here’s someone’s take on which Muppets might get cast as their Mad Men counterparts. Link.
Speaking of Mad Men, the main characters did celebrity playlists on iTunes. Here’s a post on LiveJournal that collects the playlists. Link.

They redid it. End of an era, or fun refresh? DISCUSS.
Double Fail
(Via my internet boyfriend.) They are making really really really lame Watchmen costumes for Halloween. They are so so bad.
ALSO, Nabisco aired an ad during the season re-opener of BSG that raises some interesting questions. Nothing follows up a bloody suicide like tomato soup!
Unless this YouTube clip has been doctored, commercials for Kraft’s Nabisco Premium Plus crackers ran in the final episode of Battlestar Galactica, an episode in which one of characters commits suicide with a pistol to her head. (Skip the below clip if you want to avoid a gory scene.) In the Nabisco ads which immediately follow that image, Nabisco crackers thrown into soup bowls create fountains of splattering tomato soup, choreographed to a song whose lyrics are “I just want to celebrate another day of living.” Link.

YouTube – Avatar: The Last Puppet Bender – It Aint Over Till The Plush Lady Sings
Did you watch the show “Avatar: The Last Airbender”? It was pretty amazing for what it was. I mean, it was a well thought out universe with interesting, diverse characters, a good sense of humor, and a nicely wrapped up storyline when it was all said and done. Well if you liked that show, you should check out the Puppet Bender series on YouTube. This is a link to the latest, which won’t make any sense if you didn’t watch the show. Then again if you DID watch the show, you’ll probably get a big laugh out of this. Link.
