System in the Wild: Inside Out Edition
This one is from Systemic Alex:
Whoever came up with this one was a genius.
Well Alex, garuanteed it wasn’t the jerks at 9GAG (where you found the link). In fact, TinEye.com tells me it was JohnSu (here’s his DeviantArt). I’m not going to link to 9GAG, they don’t need any help. Check out JohnSu’s stuff, would you?

System in the Wild: Head Space Edition
Welcome to System in the Wild, where people find “The System”-style signage out in the world, or signs that just don’t make any damn sense, and send them to me. Then I post them. There’s already a lot of these posts, check them out here.
From Systemic Angela (thanks, Angela!)
Saw this and thought i should send it in. Not sure what kind of instruction this is… Use the warmth to reveal the crop circles in your head?
If you see any awesome signs, mail them into systemcomic at gmail dot com, subject line “System In The Wild”. I’ll post the good ones!

Since this ad campaign has been running in Melbourne, Australia for a couple of years now, I’m really surprised that no-one has sent it to you yet. Every time I see one, I think of The System.
You’re gonna want to click on that. It gets better. Or click here. Oh, and it won an award, good on them.

System in the Wild: Israel Edition
Welcome BACK to System in the Wild, where people find “The System”-style signage out in the world, or signs that just don’t make any damn sense, and send them to me. Then I post them. There’s already a lot of these posts, check them out here.
These come to us from Systemic Thomas:
so, i was in israel recently and wondered if you had seen the crosswalk signs they have over there… there were some variations, but that was the standard one in jerusalem.
there were some (on a college campus, i believe) in which the suited fellow looked like a skinnier baseball capped fellow. on one street, it appeared that someone had taken the suited guy and turned him into a woman in a dress on a couple of signs. couldn’t get a picture of that, sadly.
anyway, yes–one of several interesting design choices i saw. oh, i nearly forgot the apparent instructions to run up the stairs:
I saw these as well on my trip to Israel. It’s always interesting to see other countries take on the same signs and to see their own “takes” on them. That crosswalk guy is dapper as hell, though admittedly not at all gender neutral. DISCUSS.

New Transgender Bathroom Symbols
Some bathrooms in a Nova Scotia medical center (Canada) are now featuring transgender signs, which I think is pretty great. The idea of bathroom symbols and their accidental/not general/too general connotations is something I’ve talked about in the past (most recently here), and now here’s one for transgendered people. I think the problem would be better solved by going more generic (aka without gender) rather than trying to match to every gender role, since there are always going to be problems trying to match to specific ones. Still, nice to see a new approach. But if you have the half male/half female symbol, do you need the other two? Maybe just put a picture of a toilet on the door, then you won’t have to deal with it.
(I forgot who sent this to me. Let me know and I’ll give you credit!)

Dueling Analogs Pays Tribute
Steve Napierski of Dueling Analogs is a ridiculously talented illustrator, but decided to flush all that down the toilet and draw a comic in the unique style you Systemics have come to know and love (teaser seen above). If you want to just see the damn thing, click on this link here. Otherwise, here’s his breakdown:
First, I had the idea for the comic and then I came up with the title for it: Beating the System. After that my affinity for puns took over because I began to associate the title/comic with Ross Nover’s popular webcomic The System. Then I started thinking, “Since ‘the system’ is in the title why not make the comic look like The System, as well?” So I did and here we are.
POPULAR? Really Steve? I think we all know better than that. If you like video games and you like my comic, you should check out the guest comics I did for him in the past over at his site here and here.
Oh, and thanks, Steve!

Little Guardians shouts out to The System
Internet homie (and known Systemic) Lee Cherolis is no stranger to The System. In fact, he did two guest comics for The System a while back that can still be found in the archives here and here. Recently, he and Ed Cho started a new comic called Little Guardians, which is a wonderfully illustrated and written webcomic that is just starting to get really interesting.
Recently, somewhat in reference to my sick week, they referenced The System in one of their posts. I cut out a snippet above, but there’s more to it than that. You’ll have to go to the post to read it (here is that post). The post is even called “Novier Cave Paintings”, a nice touch.
As much as I want you to see the reference, make sure to check out their comic, from the beginning, here.

System in the Wild: Bike Surfing Edition
It disappeared for a while, but I think it’s time to bring it back! It’s SYSTEM IN THE WILD! You send me fun/crazy/cool examples of “The System”-style imagery found in the real world, and I take the cool ones and post them on the site!
This one is from Systemic Daniel, who writes:
On the path I bike this sign makes me think bike surfing is okay to do on the path. It is all I can think of when I’m biking it, but I have yet to try it.
Probably for the best, Daniel. But thanks for sending it in!
If you want to send any in, send them to systemcomic at gmail dot com, subject “System In The Wild / Ross is Awesome”. Be sure to include a name you want to be credited with and if you want, where I should link to! I’ll bring back more once I get more sent, and slowly dig through all the ones I’ve been sitting on.
