The System 659: Rising Attitudes

I’m at Anime Expo this weekend, probably tweeting about it from @Rosscott and @SystemComic. If you’re in the LA area, come see our Super Art Fight shows. The info is all in the description under comic 658.
Oh, and it’s going to be the fifth anniversary of The System as of next week, with hopefully a carefully timed Kickstarter launch! Stay tuned.
See you on Monday!
System in the Wild: Battery Edition
Sometimes you wonderful Systemics spot awesome and hilarious stuff that looks kinda like the comic. You send it my way, and I post it as “System in the Wild”.
Systemic Michael sends in the image above with the following note:
I found the following in an instruction manual for the replacement of the back up battery in a UPS unit. Leaving off the explanatory text, I can think of all sorts of hilarious things that picture could be trying to imply besides back pain. How about you?
Glad you asked, Michael! Here’s a few takes on what that phrase could otherwise be saying:
- Warning: Poison dart sniper zone
- Caution: Box only liftable by turkeys
- Caution: Be sure to lift onto a surfboard for transport
But what do you guys think?
Send cool posts and System images to systemcomic at gmail!

Anime Expo This Weekend
I’m heading to Anime Expo in Los Angeles with the Super Art Fight gang! In addition to having a table space to sell comics and shirts (I’ll be tweeting out where once we arrive from @Rosscott and @SystemComic), we’ll be having two shows as part of the convention:
On Friday Night, July 5th, from 10:30pm-12:00am in Live Programming 2, we’ll be bringing you Super Art Fight UNLEASHED! If you’ve never seen us…well, this will be a unique introduction, as an UNLEASHED event allows our artists to indulge their sickest, darkest, most surreal and most horrifying artistic urges. It goes without saying, but this event is 18+ Only, and absolutely no photography or videos are allowed. Period.
That’s just a warm up for the main event, however, as on Saturday Night, July 6th, from 6:30pm-8:30pm we bring a proper Super Art Fight event to the Live Programming 2 stage. This is what put us on the map, this is what has allowed us to go nationwide, and we have a fantastic card lined up for you.
The System 657: Subtle Bomb

First there was FACTBOMB, now “subtle bomb”. Here it is, demonstrated by myself and my friend Meredith.
No, I wasn’t falling over at the end. Just sitting down. Feel free to send in your own examples…
A Car, a Cyclist, and a Camera
Systemic Rachel sent me a link to this article on the local DC blog Greater Greater Washington, which details the story of a man named Zach who, while cycling, wound up in an accident with a car. For those of us that commute by bike that is always a big fear. I know I have been in three cycling accidents throughout my five years of commuting to work that way, but luckily nothing as serious as the one mentioned here.
Before you click the link, know that it isn’t an article about how gruesome the accident was or how wrong the driver was. In fact it’s the story of how Zach attempted to get his insurance to cover the accident, how the accident was reported, and how lucky he was that it was caught on camera.
During the test, Officer Carter entered the room. He asked me to sign a ticket for running a red light. I asked him to take a look at footage since I was certain I hadn’t. He wasn’t interested and asked me to sign the ticket and admit fault. I didn’t. He left.
That’s just the beginning of the story. This is a cautionary tale for all the cyclists that read this site to obey traffic rules whenever possible, know your rights as a cyclist forwards and backwards, stand your ground when you know you’re right, and of course be safe out there.
Give it a read, and feel free to come back and post your thoughts. I’ll be waiting.
“It must have been your fault. C’mon. You are a biker.” (via Greater Greater Washington)
