Help Puppy Cow!
Remember my good friend Jami Noguchi? He’s got a new project in store, and it may hurt your brain a bit. Or maybe you’ll love it. Honestly, I go both ways and it makes me make weird faces. This is puppy cow:
He needs your wuv—I mean, “love”. Jamie wants to make plush toys of this little monstrosity. If you want to support him, check out his Kickstarter info below. The way Kickstarter works if you pitch in 5, 10, 25$ or whatever increments you support the project, get free swag, and of course a puppy cow when all the money has been raised. If all the money doesn’t get raised in time (in this case a month) everyone gets their money back. It’s a pretty sweet system. For details on what you can get and more on the project, click down there. Oh and be sure to watch the Kickstarter intro video, watch out for me looking drunk (but actually just very very tired).

Still time to bid on some original art…
My original art submission for the Gulf Coast Webcomics Auction has a little over 16 hours to go as of this post. I already talked about it here but you can just go straight to the eBay page and check it out. Come on, it’s only at $24.50 right now! We can do better than that. You’re making me look bad in front of the other webcomics.

Web-Comics Auction For The Gulf Coast
I don’t know if you heard, but there’s oil there? Like more than normal. In ways and places that are bad. Which is bad?
Carly Monardo has put together a webcomics charity auction to support the Gulf Coast over the last couple of weeks. Myself, homie Jami Noguchi, Mr. Nedroid, Mookie, and multiple others have given some of our hard-earned time and skill to pieces of artwork that are being auctioned through eBay. You can learn all about that here.
Now this artwork is already coming up for auction, starting today and going through the end of the week. As of now, this is the link to go directly to seeing the artwork.
What did I send in for the auction, you ask? You totally asked that, right? This!* ** ***
*on really nice paper
**signed
***without the URL in the bottom right corner
You know what would be awesome? If you guys made sure to chip in some bids on Friday to my auction (and the others). Especially mine though, so I get to look like someone with fans and stuff. That would be cool.

Guest comic for Cyanide & Happiness
I did a guest comic today for my friends over at Explosm.net, creators of Cyanide and Happiness. These are the first two panels. Click the picture or here to see how it turns out!
To those C&H fans who have come over, hi there! Welcome to The System. Check out the growing comic archive, comment on posts, and generally enjoy. If you’re looking to become one of the true fans, here’s a post I put together the other day about how new fans can get involved on the site. Just take everywhere it says “Slashdot” and replace it with “Explosm”. Or you and the Slashdotters can fight it out like something out of West Side Story.
You can start by commenting on this post and saying hi. What did you think of the guest comic?

Cupcake Sandwich Contest Winners!
Remember about, oh, a month and a bit ago, when I stumbled upon a little thing called the CUPCAKE SANDWICH? At the time I announced a rather fun contest that more than a few people opted to enter. Entries poured in. Roger Ebert was intrigued (and RTed this post). Even Hurley from LOST got in on the action. And then, silence.
Behind the scenes, it was a harsh battle. A truly difficult decision rife with conflict and dissention. But finally, I am proud to announce that MY MOTHER HAS JUDGED THE CUPCAKE SANDWICH CONTEST.

RossMom, shown here not knowing how to turn on her camera.
After the jump and without further ado, I present to you RossMom’s deliberations and the results of the Cupcake Sandwich Contest.

It’s Rossmom’s Birthday!
Some of you long-time fans have noted the presence of a long-time lurker on the site. A commenter, known as “Rossmom”, seems to comment on just about every comic on the site. As most of you may know, this is in fact my mother. For a while I didn’t let her in on the project but the MINUTE I DID she began to post. Every day. On every comic. Ever.
This has since led to some interesting results. I’ve been asked many times at cons why I write these posts pretending to be my mother. I’ve been asked whether my mom would comment on other people’s comments. I’ve also been asked (oddly enough) if she would attend some of these cons herself (lord help me).
From her perspective, she does not believe these stories. She does not believe that people actually read her comments much less go out of their way to find them. An email I got from her recently stated:
People really do talk to you about my comments? […] Perhaps I should cease and desist commenting?
Clearly she hasn’t seen your love lately, but NOW IS YOUR CHANCE. Today, March 26th, is her birthday. What a perfect day to comment on this post and show her some love! Comment away, I’m sure she’ll reply back to some soon!

The System 351: The Cupcake Sandwich

This is my gift to the world. A way of fully indulging in the joys of the cupcake without any of the drawbacks. A way that balances every bite with frosting, cake, and the joy of knowing you have truly proven yourself to be an enlightened and practical individual. I know what you’re thinking, there must be some drawbacks! Here are some common questions about THE CUPCAKE SANDWICH:
Won’t the frosting get everywhere?
While some frosting does leak out the sides at times, this is a perfect opportunity to have a bit of frosting by itself without having to have globs of it all at once. Don’t consider this a drawback, but an opportunity.
How is this any shorter than it was before? Won’t getting it in your mouth still be a problem? And your math sucks, cupcakes are not 2x the height of my mouth.
First of all, you are probably the same detractors that found flaws in the Full Gadget Ratio. Nertz to you. Second, no this will not be a problem. The cakey bottom, once placed on top, creates a “safe zone” for your hands with which you can compress the size of the cupcake at will, without getting your hands covered in frosting. As for the height of the cupcake vs mouth, it may not be perfect but sometimes the best things in life aren’t.
How have I never thought of this before?
This is why I’m an internet humorist and you’re a reader. We all have our roles to play.
UPDATE: Systemic Brownpau sends word that others have come up with the same idea…
Time for a contest, Systemics!
You have ONE WEEK (until the end of 4/1/2010 EST) to send me a photo of you and your friends enjoying a CUPCAKE SANDWICH. These must be emailed to systemcomic at gmail. Points will be given based on:
- Amazingness of the cupcake
- Composition of the photo
- Number of people eating CUPCAKE SANDWICHES in the photo
- Originality
What’s on the line?
- A print of the CUPCAKE SANDWICH comic you see above from HilariAwesome.com
- A shirt of your choosing from HilariAwesome.com, including the fresh new “Beards Turn Laziness Into Awesomeness” shirt (which is still on preorder sale through tomorrow!)
- A post on the site all about you and your CUPCAKE SANDWICH experience

The System 348: Fitting In At SXSW (Gear)

Yes, I know most of you are sick of hearing about it, but here is some insight into the SXSW Interactive Experience. I’ll post more of an update here soon, but for now this is about what I’m seeing. Of course, this is what I’m doing right now as well so who am I to talk.
UPDATE: I wound up on TWiT live for about 30 seconds during the DiggNation party the other night. I went up to Leo Laporte to thank him for linking to the Singletasking comic. Of course, I was in the middle of trying to get some friends into the party, but wanted to say a quick hello. This is when he turned the camera on me for a quick interview. I was off my game, and therefore only mentioned the web address twice. It was a live feed, but some amazing Systemics managed to swoop in and got some screen shots. PICS THAT IT HAPPENED. If anyone can find a video feed of this freakish occurance, please do let me know.
