A few days ago I received an email with this graphic in my DEPARTMENT OF ART faculty email:

Words could not describe my feelings on the matter. So instead of trying, I posted it on my Official Unofficial Twitter! This is where you loving Systemics come in, as long-time Systemic and all-around awesome dude Sleshy stepped up to the plate and knocked one out of the park!

If you get it, you’re in the right place. And thanks again, Systemic Sleshy! If you ever come up with something cool or even remix an old comic, send it my way! If it’s funny (and I’m not too swamped with emails) I’ll post it on the site.

Want to congratulate Sleshy? Ever received “Word art” this bad? Post your thoughts in the comments!

The System 457: To Scale

Welcome, Systemics to another fun-filled week of… fun here at The System. BIG THINGS are in store for the week, and I’m not just talking about the toothbrush shown here. So stay tuned!

Speaking of that giant toothbrush, I found out while researching this comic (yes, this comic took research) that there is a place online for ALL your giant novelty item needs. Need a giant hamburger? Giant toothbrush? GIANT WHISK? They gotcha covered. The best part? There’s videos. With a theme song. A-la “Will it Blend?” comes “Is it big?” (SPOILER ALERT: Yes.)

There are PLENTY more “Is It Big?” videos where that came from, if you dare. The song is “Big Time” by Peter Gabriel, which gets pretty stuck in your head. Be warned. Btw if someone wants to buy me the Giant Novelty Cup and Saucer, I will drink a cup of coffee out of it. Or hell, any of them. Who doesn’t need more giant novelty things in their life?

As far as the comic goes, this falls under the True Story tag. I have what is known as a “Wee Apartment” (under 300 sq. ft) and with a place that small, anything left out or foreign objects are automatically in the way of other things. It seems only fair that if something proportionally in the way in my tiny place should have an equivalent size taken up at her place in return, no? It’s the law of equivalent exchange! Or maybe I’ve been watching too much animé.

Ever leave things over at your girl/boyfriend’s? Thinking of bringing over a giant novelty item? Have Peter Gabriel stuck in your head? Share in the comments!

The System 456: Future Discomfort

First and foremost, I’m really hoping Rossmom lays off this one. Pretty please. Let’s pretend this never happened.

Second, this was an idea I had while looking for parking with friends a few years ago, but the wording eluded me for a long time. Lo, it sat on the back burner, waiting to be fully cooked. Finally, with the help of Systemic Sarah (and a lack of other ideas) it has become a reality.

Thirdly, this is YET another example of why more women need to date designers. We’re a visual people. We understand spatial relationships and emotional relationships.

And finally, there are  lots of lines that could have come after this fourth panel. Lines such as this one from Systemic Rebecca:

And you can’t even FIND my side view mirror!

Can you think of any more?

Remember System in the Wild posts? When you, the lovely fans, would send in examples of “System-style” artwork online and in the real world and send it to me, and then I’d post it on the site? Some of you certainly haven’t, as you still send them to me, of which I am grateful. I, of course, have been lax in posting any such examples for months now. But this example, when sent in, made me bring it back.

Systemic and Internet Bro Marty F’n Day, writer of the nerd culture blog Blast-O-Rama, has sent in this link. It’s a set of examples of minimal superhero suit designs, separated (theorhetically) by a key object that transforms them or something. It’s hard to say. Some make more sense than others in this case (the Green Lantern has a lantern in the middle, Spider-Man has a spider, but Reed Richards has a big “4”, Iron Man has a big iron, etc.) but all are cool looking. Have you missed the posts? Do you want me to go back to posting SitW posts? Let me know in the comments. If you have a good one, send it to systemcomic at gmail, but no guarantees on whether or not it gets posted just yet.
