This is one of those days I’m not sure I’ll make it to 200.

The System 180

Remember, Friday is the last day to preorder one of the new shirts for the low price of $18 (which includes shipping)!  After that, it goes up to $20 plus shipping, so probably more like $23.  That’s $5 more!  Do you want to pay an extra five bucks?  Of course you don’t.  So don’t do it, and preorder a shirt today.

Wondering why I’m doing a preorder?  Let me just say it’s important.  I really want to start taking the comic more seriously, and to do more with the comic and the site.  Part of that is needing to make some of the money I’ve invested into the comic back.  So more preorders means more from the site you love so much.  So if you’re at all thinking of buying a shirt, preorder it now and help me make it happen.  Thanks!

This is true.  You name it, and it is annoying me today.  Everything annoys me today.  Yup.  Everything.

Btw, the store is now up and running for shirt preorders.  Preorders will last until April 3rd, and then we will move out of “preorders” and into just “orders”.  Want a Jimmy the Murderdog or HELL Vetica shirt?  Now’s the time to get it for cheaper than you would otherwise get it later!  Go check out the store!

Inspired by all the bullshit we have to detect in a day.  I asked people through the my Twitter feed for ideas of “What’s a common needless charge? Something that gets thrown on with a car purchase?”  Other ideas for the bullshit detector included:

  • Stephen: Floor mats
  • Marty: Tire rotation
  • Chris: Rust coating
  • R Stizzle: Extra shiny steering wheel
  • Lee: Undercoating and rust value adjustment
  • Perry: New tire smell

I do often ask questions such as this on my Twitter feed.  Other such questions include “does this make me look fat?” and “does this look infected to you?”.  If that’s not reason enough to follow me, I don’t know what is.

If you’re not interested in anything I have to say but still enjoy Twitter, I have another account just for comic updates and the like.  Check out @SystemComic on Twitter.

It’s true, I’m now “that guy with the iPhone”.  I hereby vow to not be a huge dick about it.

I had fun writing this one.  I knew the joke right away, that to play together you have to NOT hang out, but it took me about 30 minutes to tweak how it all came together. I couldn’t decide on whether to end the joke with the lonely guy being excited that his friend left, or disappointed and confused.  I think in the end it’s happily ambiguous.

The concept of playing with friends far away is understandable, since there are many cases that you cannot be in person.  However, the idea that multiplayer on the same console has been lost in the process is really disappointing.  Maybe it’s because my “peak” video game years were spent playing against friends after school and siblings in person, but in my mind the art of multiplayer games has been lost in recent years.  I want to share the experience with others, but that doesn’t mean miles away.  Sometimes, you want video games to be a social activity in a way that being apart can’t fill.

That being said, I don’t think there aren’t lots of games out there that are fun in groups.  Rock Band, Smash Bros., Wii Sports (can you tell I own a Wii?) just to name a few, but I stand by my statement that the era of getting together to play with your friends is being lost to going your separate ways just to meet up online.  I guess that’s not just video games, now that I think about it.
