Valentine’s Day. That’s a thing.
Happy Valentine’s day! I am doing nothing on the site to celebrate it, but I did something great to celebrate it last year. So go forget you maybe saw it and check it out all over again!
Come see me at Katsucon THIS WEEKEND!
I’ll have a table and be signing things / meeting people / selling wares at Katsucon all this weekend, and performing two (count ’em, TWO) shows with Super Art Fight. The table will be in section GG 13-15 with Dern, Jamie, and Mikey, which should be fun. If you don’t want to buy a damn thing, stop by and mention you read the comic. I don’t mind, honestly. I’ll probably even give you something free, because I’m a nice guy like that.
As for the shows, on Friday night we are doing Super Art Fight: UNLEASHED which will be a complete shit-show of ridiculousness. Let’s put it this way, no pictures are allowed and it’s 21+ 18+! to get in. And considering what goes on at other shows, this will be… something. On Saturday, we’ll be performing in the Main Events area, with a big extravaganza of a thing! We have a super secret special guest that I’m really excited to meet. He won’t be at the Unleashed show, which is probably for the best.
If you like this comic…
Also check out these other chart-jokes here. Aaaaand if you like making fun of clients, here’s all those comics! If you’re a huge chart fan, you may want a print of this or any other comic on the site, and chances are you’d also really like this t-shirt:
Buy it from the store for only $20!

The System Guest Comic: Steve Napierski
Thanks to my good friend Steve “Dueling Analogs” Napierski for the guest comic:
Hope you like it. I’ve actually done this before and gotten away with it. Just not from the toilet, of course.
I’ve done this before too, though not with moving a logo. With changing colors, with resizing fonts, but mostly just saying I’ll turn down the music / TV. How about you?
A little more on Steve: He does a funny comic about video games, as well as (in my opinion) an even funnier comic that needs to be seen to be described called Omake Theater. I did a guest comic for him a while back that got him tons of press. Let’s hope this does the same so he can stop owing me so bad (just kidding Steve, we’re cool).
By the way! Be sure to check out the new Venn F%*king Diagrams shirt which is now for sale in the HilariAwesome.com store! It’s for sale-for sale, meaning it’s at a lower preorder price if you act now, because that way I get to know how many people want them and you get them for less. You probably should »

The System 396: Presentation is Everything
Ever navigate using the tags with each post? I do a pretty good job on sorting them. Check it out!
This is actually going to be the featured graphic on my new set of business cards I was working on the other night. This and 3 others like it. I figured you shouldn’t have to see me to see how awesome this is, right?
Btw! If you ever submit a comic to Reddit, Digg, whatever, post the link to the submission in the comments so others can help it out! Big surges in traffic from those sorts of things really helps me get the comic out there, and does wonders for my always-fragile ego.

Lost Cat / Problems with Designers
Not all designers are perfect. Some try to make a cigar back into something else, if you know what I mean. Here’s a hilarious story about one such case of a woman needing help with a “lost cat” poster, and the designer who “tried” to “help” her. In regards to the poster above:
David,
yeah thats not what I was looking for at all. it looks like a movie and how come the photo of Missy is so small?
ShannonDear Shannon,
It’s a design thing. The cat is lost in the negative space.
Regards, David.
It gets better from there. Thanks to Systemic (and friend) Lisa for sending this my way. READ THE WHOLE THING »

I don’t expect most of you will get this, but that makes for a wonderful teaching opportunity. Josef Müller-Brockmann was a member of the Swiss design movement. Like Massimo Vignelli (whom I almost made this comic about until I realized he, like parts of the De Stijl movement, weren’t so into the tipped composition thing) he was into simple geometry, grid formation, and fonts like Aksidenz Grotesk and Helvetica.
Anyway, there are worse posters you could put on your wall.

Both times I tried to export / save this file it crashed and I had to re-create it. Sorry for the quality, I had to screen shot while the file was shutting down and export through Photoshop. I think Steve Jobs is after me.
Clients from Hell
This is the best blog since my blog (and Kottke.org that I find so much cool stuff on it’s insane). It is, as it states, “A collection of anonymously contributed client horror stories from designers.” That is exactly what you will find. One of my favorites:
That looks good, but can you add a blog too? We’ve already used our budget on the rest of the site so how does $50 sound for adding the blog?
Oh, you poor souls. Anyway, they are pretty hilarious and to those designers out there, make you realize you aren’t alone. LINK.
Btw, if you like those, check out the “clients” tag here at Rosscott, Inc. Chances are you’ll find things up your alley.
