In this case, sharing this comic would be extremely helpful.

When someone asks for help, lend a hand. Not just a:

hand

The System 600: WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED SINCE THE LAST TIME WE DID THIS

Like numbers 500400300200 and 100, another recap of what we’ve learned in the last 100 comics. I enjoy putting these together, but they do take quite a while. All the panels are from comics from the last 100 comics. Can you name where all of them are from?

Also, we have something else to celebrate! We also recently passed the four-year anniversary of the comic as well. 400 comics! That’s pretty good, right? That officially makes The System my longest-held job / relationship.

<I’ll insert more words about what it’s like to do 600 comics here soon.>

Anyway, if you want to help me celebrate, there’s a few things you can do:

  • Share your favorite comics from the archive with friends.
  • Comment on posts.
  • Buy prints of any comics you like from HilariAwesome.com, our online store.
  • Buy shirts from HilariAwesome.com, our online store.
  • GET READY to give me more money, because I’m going to be launching a Kickstarter for The System Book 1 in a few weeks. As soon as the book is mostly built and I have a quote for the number of books, it’ll all come together. Stay tuned!

The System 568: Facebook Etiquette for Bad News

I saw this twice today, people “liking” posts where the post was bad news. Did they really like the bad news? No, they were merely showing support through a “like”. Sounds to me like we should change them from “like” to “approve” or “support”, because that’s what you’re really doing anyway. In real life, when someone says “I think we should get pizza”, you don’t say “like”. No, you agree. Do that. Just agree.

Have any funny (or sad) Facebook stories? Share them in the comments! I’m reading, and as always so is Rossmom.

The System 552: Antisocial Networking

Something about this post description was messing with the RSS feed, so I had to delete it. It wasn’t that clever anyway.

Here are some quick photoshops of the final images of the comic. Feel free to use as you like, but please credit both Caldwell (if it doesn’t look stiff, he drew it and deserves credit) and myself where appropriate. If anyone asks you where you find it, you know where to send ’em.

If you really like one of these images, remember that all three are available on t-shirts and as a poster at HilariAwesome.com. It is a joint venture between myself and Caldwell, so if you decide to support us by purchasing something, we both benefit.

WHAM. That’s gotta be the biggest damn comic-chart there ever was, right?

UPDATE: HELP IRONY HAPPEN! Here’s today’s comic on Reddit. Here it is on BoingBoing. Post it in places and let me know where or post in the comments!

Thank you oh-so much to this joint endeavor of The System and Caldwell of Loldwell.com. Both of us have had plenty of experience with our work making its way across the internet, both with and without attribution to our hard work, and so we thought we would make a comic/chart about how to do it right.

Consider this reference material for the next time you find an artist’s work on a website without attribution to all the hard work someone put in. Next time you see someone posting something that isn’t theirs on Tumblr or Flickr or DeviantArt or wherever else, let them know what you really think. That they are killing the internet. And of course, every time you do that, the Internet (which, let’s face it, is a kitten) sheds a single tear. And then dies because IT HAS BEEN KILLED BY STUPID PEOPLE.

What’s that? You want this on a t-shirt? A poster? Not a problem!

Oh, you thought it would make a good shirt? Which part? The Googles? The sharing emblem? The sad kitten? Gotcha covered. Click on the images below to take you to the HilariAwesome.com store, where you can purchase any of the three shirts we’ve created from this comic. Proceeds go to the original artists, who worked hard to make you laugh and provide this public service announcement.

UPDATE: For those of you who were here earlier, there used to be a “sharing is awesome!” shirt based largely on the image in the above chart available right where this paragraph now lives. Due to using, oh, everyone’s logo in it, this infringed on some copyrights. If you think about it, that goes completely against the point of the chart in the first place, so we’ve taken it down for the time being. Caldwell and I fully plan to retool the design to not feature so many other people’s work in a way that goes against the spirit of the chart and then repost it as available for sale. In the meantime, hope you like the other shirts!

F%*k You T-shirt

To The Googles! T-shirt

See Something? Cite Something. Poster
(NOTE: If you would like a “radio edit” of the chart for whatever reason, just place the order and put that in the “special instructions” and we’ll make it happen!)

Of course, talk it up in the comments! We hid a ton of little jokes into this chart, see if you can find them all and list your favorite!

The System 400: What Else We’ve Learned

Welcome to comic #400, and the 2-year anniversary of The System! I know what you’re saying, comic #1 was posted July 1st. True, but it went live somewhere around July 8th and y’know what? Close enough.

Since then we’ve seen lots of changes to the site, from some recurring characters to comics that have been across the internet and back (with varying amounts of credit thrown my way). I could not have made it this far if not for the help of my many friends (both those with websites and without) and fans who have encouraged and supported this project along the way.

Over the next few weeks you will start seeing some improvements around here, as some new personal opportunities have come up that will allow for some more time and effort to be put on the comic and its various accoutrement. If you’re a fan of the site and would like to do your part, check out the online store and consider supporting the comic and taking something home while you’re at it. If you don’t see something you like don’t worry, preorder for BOOK 1 of The System will be going up soon along with other pieces of amazingness.

For those of you less monetarily inclined but with plenty of free time, it always helps when you share comics on StumbleUpon, Reddit, forums, blogs, BoingBoing or any other sites you frequent. Or for that matter just participating around here by commenting on posts and talking back as I use this site (and Twitter, and Tumblr) to talk at you. I know RossMom always appreciates it, and at this point I think we can pretty much call her a moderator. And yeah, that’s my mom.

Also upcoming, I’m going to start posting a bit of a retrospective on how The System is doing in an effort to show you guys what goes on behind the scenes and also get some thoughts out. Posts about how I’ve gotten this far (if you call this far) and what I’ve learned along the way. For those who like that kind of inside baseball I think you’ll appreciate them. For those that don’t, well, there’s always the comic.

Speaking of the comic, can you pick out where all the panels are from? The art is all from previous comics starting between comic #304 and #399. See what you can do and post it in the comments!
